What is a Good Sport?
Sport was the term used by many early fishing guides to refer to their clients. It signaled that their client would be the one fishing, not themselves. They considered angling to be a game, in which their client is the opponent of the fish they’re trying to catch.
Being a Good Sport is to play the game, be willing to learn, and have a little bit of optimism while doing it.
Who is Good Sport Fly Fishing?
Good Sport Flying Fishing is the small project of Kyle Black - a Catskills angler and licensed guide. Kyle has been fishing for long enough to have put more than a few fish in the net and to know which knots to tie, but not long enough to have forgotten the days when he didn’t know how to assemble a rod and reel.
At Good Sport Fly Fishing we’re about getting out and exploring, learning brand new skills or improving the ones we have, and gaining a deeper understanding and connection to this beautiful ecosystem around us.
We practice catch & release on all trips, always keeping conservation top of mind. We love to work with new anglers and put them on the right track for a lifetime of adventure.
Our home waters are the upper Esopus Creek, but we can also take trips out on the Neversink River, Willowemoc Creek, and the Beaverkill River.
Good Sport Fly Fishing is a Licensed and Insured New York State Guiding service.
